Lady Roadrunners open Region play with victory
Park Hills, Mo.-The 15th-ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women’s basketball team used a quick start to defeat Mineral Area College 84-59 on Wednesday night, Jan. 7. The victory was the 16th in a row for the Lady Roadrunners to open the season.

SFCC (16-0, 1-0 in Region 16) led 8-0 with eight minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the opening quarter. The Lady Roadrunners led 25-17 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Roadrunners took control of the contest with a 13-0 run to open the second quarter and never looked back. SFCC stretched the advantage to 47-31 at halftime. The Lady Roadrunners had a 67-44 lead at the end of three quarters.
SFCC used a balanced scoring effort to claim the important road victory. Freshman guard Chloe Reed of Wentzville, Mo. led the team in scoring with 20 points. Sophomore guard Zoe Newland St. Louis, Mo. and sophomore guard Sophia Edwin of Killeen, Texas contributed 12 points each. Sophomore forward Ellie Buscher of St. Louis, Mo. pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists. Newland registered a team-high four steals and tied for the team lead in blocked shots with Buscher with two.
SFCC will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10 for a home contest against Three Rivers Community College. Tipoff for the battle between the nationally ranked teams is scheduled for 2 p.m., inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
