Sedalia, Mo.-The 20th ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women's basketball team picked up their eight consecutive victory to begin the season over North Arkansas College 98-58 on Wednesday night, Nov. 19 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
SFCC (8-0) shook off a slow start to lead to the game 21-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Roadrunners led the game 50-31 at halftime and never looked back.
"I wasn't happy with the way we started the game," said Lady Roadrunners head coach Nicole Collier. "We were a little more stagnant against the zone than I wanted this to be. We picked it up along the way and got moving."
During halftime, the State Fair Community College men's basketball team honored SFCC faculty and staff members in a ceremony on the court.
The Lady Roadrunners had five players who scored in double figures during the game. Freshman guard Chloe Reed of Wentzville, Mo. recorded a double-double with 24 points, including five three-point baskets and a team-high 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Kamaree Pollard of Mt. Vernon, Ill. contributed 19 points and two blocked shots. Freshman guard Maliyah White of Minneapolis, Minn. pitched in with 16 points in her first game as a Lady Roadrunner. Sophomore guard/forward Carolyn Foster of O'Fallon, Ill. added 12 points. Sophomore guard Zoe Newland of St. Louis, Mo. scored 11 points and registered four steals. Sophomore forward Ellie Buscher of St. Louis, Mo. dished out a team-high five assists. As a team, the Lady Roadrunners shot 42% from the field and knocked down 14 of 27 three-point shots. SFCC also shot 80% from the free-throw line.
"That is pretty good," said Collier. "We got a lot of different people involved tonight. We want to be as deep of a team as possible and continue to progress in everything we're doing. I think we are doing that. We have to shift gears quickly and get ready to play on the road on Friday. Overall, I think our basketball IQ is improving and our depth is improving."
The Lady Roadrunners will return to action on Friday, Nov. 21 with a road game against Labette Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
