Sedalia, Mo.-The 23rd ranked State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners basketball team opened their season with a 79-50 victory over Triton College in the opening round of the McDonald's Classic inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Friday, Oct.31.
SFCC (1-0) exploded with a 16-0 run to open the game.
"When we share the ball and get out and run, we are pretty hard to stop," said Lady Roadrunners head coach Nicole Collier. "We have a lot of players on the team who can go get the rebound and go, that allows more freedom to push the ball in transition and get some of those easy buckets. I thought transition offense was what separated us early in the game."
SFCC held Triton to only six points in the second quarter to put the game away. The Lady Roadrunners pushed their advantage to 42-17 at halftime.
Freshman guard Chloe Reed led her team in scoring with 20 points and a team-high five steals. Sophomore forward Ellie Buscher registered a double-double with 11 points and a team-high 16 rebounds. Buscher led the team with four blocked shots with four and assists with five. Sophomore guard Zoe Newland contributed 13 points.
Every Lady Roadrunner in uniform was able to play in the game.
"It was good to see everyone have some success on the floor tonight," said Collier.
