Big second quarter leads Lady Roadrunners to bounce back victory
Neosho, MO.-The 12th-ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners shook off a slow start to earn a big 88-56 victory at Crowder College on Saturday, Jan. 31.
Neosho, MO.-The 12th-ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners shook off a slow start to earn a big 88-56 victory at Crowder College on Saturday, Jan. 31. The game was part of the Region 16 schedule for both teams.
SFCC (21-1, 6-1 in Region 16) trailed 11-4 early in the opening quarter. The Lady Roadrunners trimmed the deficit to 16-13 at the end of the first quarter.
SFCC turned up the intensity on both ends of the floor to take control of the game in the second quarter. The Lady Roadrunners outscored Crowder 31-10. SFCC led 44-26 at halftime. The Lady Roadrunners only gave up seven points in the third quarter and put the game away.
Freshman guard Kamaree Pollard of Mt. Vernon, Ill. led a balanced scoring attack for SFCC with 15 points. Sophomore guard Zoe Newland of St. Louis, Mo. contributed 14 points and tied for the team lead in assists with four. Freshman guard Chloe Reed of Wentzville, Mo. pitched in with 13 points and tied for the team lead with three blocked shots. Freshman guard Maliyah White of Minneapolis, Minn. also pitched in 13 points and tied for the team lead with four assists. Sophomore guard Sophia Edwin of Killeen, Texas added 10 points and tied for the team lead in assists with four. Sophomore forward Ellie Buscher of St. Louis, Mo. pulled down a team-high 16 rebounds and tied for team-high in blocked shots with three. Sophomore guard/forward Carolyn Foster led the team in steals with three.
SFCC will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4 against Moberly Area Community College in another Region 16 contest. Tipoff from the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
