Lady Roadrunners close out the semester with road victory
Godfrey, Ill. The 16th-ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women’s basketball team used a quick offensive start to pick up a 102-59 victory over Lewis & Clark Community College on Saturday, Dec. 13 in Godfrey, Ill.
Godfrey, Ill. The 16th-ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women's basketball team used a quick offensive start to pick up a 102-59 victory over Lewis & Clark Community College on Saturday, Dec. 13 in Godfrey, Ill. The victory was the 14th consecutive win to open the season.
SFCC (14-0) led 25-10 with less than four minutes remaining in the opening quarter. The Lady Roadrunners took a 24-point advantage into the locker room at halftime. The game was played at a fast pace. The Lady Roadrunners took an 80-51 lead at the end of three quarters. SFCC outscored Lewis & Clark 22-8 in the final quarter.
The Lady Roadrunners had four players who scored in double figures in the game. Freshman guard Chloe Reed of Wentzville, Mo. led the team in scoring with 22 points and tied for the team lead in steals with three. Sophomore forward Ellie Buscher of St. Louis, Mo. contributed 17 points and a team-high two blocked shots Sophomore guard/forward Carolyn Foster of O'Fallon, Ill. added 14 points. Freshman guard Kamaree Pollard of Mt. Vernon, Ill. also added 14 points. Freshman forward Taylor Wilson of Copperas Cove, Texas pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Sophia Edwin of Killeen, Texas dished out a team-high 10 assists and tied for the team lead in steals with three. Sophomore guard Zoe Newland of St. Louis, Mo. also tied for the team lead in steals with three. As a team, SFCC shot 47.1% from the field and 32.1% from beyond the three-point arc. The Lady Roadrunners knocked down 72.2% of their free throws.
After the holiday break, SFCC will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 4 with a home game against Treasure Valley Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. from the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
