Sedalia, Mo. The 17th ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women's basketball team used a fast start to defeat Iowa Western Community College 86-48 on Saturday, Nov. 29 to close out the State Fair Community College Thanksgiving Classic inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. The victory was the 12th in a row to begin the season for SFCC.
The Lady Roadrunners (12-0) jumped out to a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Roadrunners led 44-22 at halftime and cruised to the victory.
"I was impressed with our defense," said Lady Roadrunners head coach Nicole Collier. "I thought we defended extremely well. The ability to have Ellie Buscher back in the mix changes how we do things. She sees the floor so well. Chloe Reed was a monster out there for us. It is hard to be undefeated and not get complacent and continue to keep showing up. The girls are doing that. When we share the ball, we are really special. We were able to play some people in different positions tonight. Taylor Wilson is nails from the free-throw line and she is getting some good minutes. Z'Mharie Barber is doing some good things out there. We were able to get everyone involved today.
As a team, SFCC shot 17 out of 18 from the free-throw line. Reed led the team in scoring with 28 points, including six three-point shots. Wilson added 12. Buscher also scored 12 points and registered a team-high two blocked shots. Wilson also contributed 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Sophia Edwin and redshirt freshman guard Jonise Barcene tied for the team lead in assists with three. Edwin, Buscher, and freshman guard Kamaree Pollard all tied for the team lead in steals with two.
SFCC will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 2 with a game at Southeast Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
