Lady Roadrunners extend winning streak to five games
Council Bluffs, Iowa- The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women’s basketball team closed out their portion of the Reiver Classic with a 74-64 victory over Ellsworth Community College on Saturday, Nov. 8 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Council Bluffs, Iowa- The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women's basketball team closed out their portion of the Reiver Classic with a 74-64 victory over Ellsworth Community College on Saturday, Nov. 8 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
SFCC (5-0) led the contest 27-26 at halftime. Ellsworth fought back to take a 36-35 lead in the third quarter. SFCC answered back to take a 47-43 lead at the end of three quarters. The game was tied at 51 with about seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Roadrunners had an answer down the stretch. SFCC put together a run to take a 62-53 lead with about four minutes remaining in the game. It was an advantage SFCC would hold onto for the remainder of the contest.
Sophomore guard Sophia Edwin led the team in scoring with 22 points, including 12 made free throws in 14 attempts. Edwin led the team with steals with three and tied for the team lead in assists with four. Freshman guard Chloe Reed contributed 14 points. Sophomore Carolyn Foster pitched in with 12 points. Sophomore forward Ellie Buscher had another outstanding all-around game with 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds to register yet another double-double. Buscher tied for the team lead with four assists and led the team with three blocked shots.
The Lady Roadrunners will return to game action on Friday, Nov. 14 with a game against Otero College as part of the Hutchinson Community College Women's Classic in Hutchinson, Kan. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
