Columbia, Mo. – The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners cross country team finished ninth as a team at the Larry Young Invitational hosted by Columbia College at the Gans Creek Recreation Area on Friday, Sept. 12.
Freshman Maryn Clausing of Peculiar, Missouri, recorded the best individual finish for SFCC. Clausing covered the 5K course in a time of 22:15.17 to finish 35th overall.
Freshman Emily Trelow of Smithton, Missouri, finished 47th with a time of 22:38.33. Freshman Libbey Baadsgaard of Springfield, Missouri, finished 58th with a time of 23:23.36. Freshman Tajel McDaniel of Belle, Missouri, finished 63rd with a time of 23:36.11. Sophomore Alexis Riddle of Independence, Missouri, finished 64th in a time of 23:36.89.
"The teams performed very well, given the circumstances," said co-head cross country coach Kellin Loch.
Despite the races being held in the evening, temperatures remained in the mid-90s, making for challenging conditions.
"Maryn Clausing was our top runner this week, running a time similar to last week, which is rather impressive given the difference in environments between the two races," Loch said. "Training earlier in the week was a little higher in intensity and we saw more elevation changes at the Gans Creek course, and then there was the heat. Given these factors, you would expect a decent time difference, but Maryn demonstrated some real toughness and kept a good, steady pace throughout the entirety of the race, resulting in a solid time and performance."
Loch said the team handled the adversity well.
"Overall, the women did well and battled through the heat, giving performances to be proud of all around."
