Lady Roadrunners extended winning streak to four games
The 23rd ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women’s basketball team opened their portion of the Reiver Classic with an 83-65 win over Iowa Western Community College on Friday night, Nov. 7 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Council Bluffs, Iowa- The 23rd ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners women's basketball team opened their portion of the Reiver Classic with an 83-65 win over Iowa Western Community College on Friday night, Nov. 7 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Iowa Western led 22-21 at the end of the first quarter. SFCC (4-0) led 31-24 with about five minutes remaining in the second quarter. Iowa Western fought back to get within three points with about three minutes to go in the second quarter.
SFCC led 47-42 at halftime. SFCC held Iowa Western to 21 points combined in the third and fourth quarters to secure the fourth consecutive win to open the season.
The Lady Roadrunners had five players score in double figures in the game. Sophomore guard Zoe Newland led the team with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds which tied for the team lead. Sophomore guard Sophia Edwin pitched in with 19 points and a team-leading four assists and three steals, while playing all 40 minutes. Freshman guard Kamaree Pollard chipped in with 15 points and tied for the team lead with eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Ellie Buscher contributed 14 points. Freshman guard Chloe Reed added 10 points and a team-high two blocked shots.
SFCC will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 8 with a game against Ellsworth Community College as part of the Reiver Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
