Herald, Backes, and Marshall earn All-Region honors
Sedalia, Mo.-Three State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners softball student-athletes were named All-Region 16 Second Team.
Sedalia, Mo.-Three State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners softball student-athletes were named All-Region 16 Second Team. The awards are voted on by the coaches in Region 16. Sophomore utility player Jenna Herald of Monett and freshman third baseman Morgan Marshall of St. Joseph, each earned recognition in the infield. Freshman outfielder Madelyn Backes of Bonnots Mill earned recognition in the outfield. The student-athletes were honored during the first round of the Region 16 Softball Tournament on Friday, May 7 at Ron Ditzfeld Field.
"Jenna, Madelyn, and Morgan have been great for us all year," said head coach Michele Rupard. "Madelyn hit 15 home runs for this year, while hitting almost .400. Jenna has played well at shortstop all year for us. She has kept us in a lot of games defensively. Morgan was a kid who wasn't going to go to college. I found her playing ball just having fun and she's done that all year for us too. I was really happy that all those kids got recognized and two of them are freshmen so we will get them back next year."
Herald played in 40 games this season. Herald had a batting average of .333 during regular season. Herald had five home runs and drove in 20 runs. She recorded 41 hits this season which ranks third on the team. Herald also had a .949 fielding percentage.
Marshall played in 42 games this season. Marshall ranks second on the team in hits with 43. Marshall drove in 20 runs this season, to go along with 17 runs scored. Marshall contributed nine doubles.
Backes has played 48 games this season while recording a team-leading .394 batting average. Backes recorded a team-high 15 home runs. She has driven in a team-high 53 runs. Backes contributed a team-high 61 hits. Backes scored 44 runs.
