Lady Roadrunners win pair of games
Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners softball team opened their portion of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Tuesday, March 17 with a victory over Oakton Community College, 14-6 in five innings because of the run rule.
Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners softball team opened their portion of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Tuesday, March 17 with a victory over Oakton Community College, 14-6 in five innings because of the run rule. SFCC followed that up with a 9-2 victory over Madison College.
In game one against Oakton, SFCC scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break open a close game. The SFCC (7-7) offense put together 12 hits in the game.
Freshman outfielder Madelyn Backes of Bonnots Mill had a pair of hits including a double. Sophomore third baseman/catcher Natalie Crumpler of Exeter also had a pair of hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Freshman first baseman Brooke Collison of Billings contributed two hits and two RBIs. Freshman utility player Jaden Mauzey of Mendon had a pair of hits and scored two runs. Freshman outfielder/utility player Jillian Reller of Elsberry drove in a pair of runs. Sophomore utility player Jenna Herald of Monett also drove in a pair of runs. Sophomore catcher Katlyn Starke of Linn also drove in two runs and scored twice. Sophomore first baseman/outfielder Courtney Dehn of Dearborn scored a pair of runs.
Freshman pitcher Addison Wallace of Carthage got the start in the circle for SFCC. Wallace pitched three innings, gave up six runs, no earned runs, five hits, struck out two, and walked two. Freshman pitcher Corinne Tuck of Braymer came out of the bullpen to pitch two innings, gave up no hits, struck out three, and walked one.
In game two against Madison College, freshman utility player Shyanne Weibrecht of Perryville had two hits. Sophomore catcher Chelsye Graham of Ash Grove also added a pair of hits. Freshman third baseman Morgan Marshall of St. Joseph pitched in with two hits. Freshman pitcher/second baseman Grace Evans of Fulton had two hits including a double and two RBIs. Freshman first baseman/pitcher Dawnee Sorensen of Exeter contributed a double. Backes hit a triple and drove in three runs.
Tuck got the start in the circle for SFCC. Tuck pitched five innings and gave up one unearned run on seven hits. Tuck struck out eight and walked one. Sophomore pitcher/utility player Valerie Meyer of Houstonia came out of the bullpen to pitch two innings and struck out one.
