Lady Roadrunners split on final day of the Branson Bash
The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners softball team picked up a 6-3 victory in their opening game on day two over East Central College.
Branson, Mo.-The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners softball team picked up a 6-3 victory in their opening game on day two over East Central College. SFCC fell to Eastern Oklahoma State College in their final game at the event by a score of 8-0 in five innings on Saturday, Feb. 21 in Branson, Mo.
In the opening game against East Central, SFCC produced 11 hits. Sophomore catcher Chelsye Graham of Ash Grove had three hits, including a double and two RBIs to lead the offensive attack. Freshman third baseman Morgan Marshall of St. Joseph contributed a pair of doubles. Freshman outfielder/utility player Jillian Reller of Elsberry recorded a double and two RBIs.
Sophomore pitcher/second baseman Elana Clark of Maysville got the start in the circle for SFCC. Clark tossed a complete game. She gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out two to earn the victory in the circle.
In game two against Eastern Oklahoma State College, the SFCC offense was held to three hits. Freshman utility player Shyanne Weibrecht of Perryville, Jenna Herald of Monett, and freshman shortstop/utility player Haylee Cobb of Warsaw, Mo. recorded one hit each.
Freshman pitcher Corinne Tuck of Braymer got the start in the circle for SFCC. Tuck pitched four innings, allowed eight runs on eight hits, struck out two, and walked three. Freshman pitcher/second baseman Grace Evans of Fulton came out of the bullpen to pitch one inning, gave up one hit, and struck out one.
"We played well defensively," said head coach Michele Rupard. "I was very happy with that. We are pretty young on the field, and we are working through that. Offensively, we struggled Friday, but Saturday was different. We swung at better pitches and barreled some balls. I look forward to us continuing to work and get better and see where that takes us."
SFCC (1-3) will return to action on Friday, Feb. 27 with games against Iowa Western Community College and Indian Hills Community College at the Mid-American Sports Complex.
