Fort Dodge, Iowa- The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men's cross country team brought home a 20th place finish from the NJCAA Division II Cross Country Championships hosted at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Saturday, Nov. 8. The team faced temperatures of 32 degrees along with some rain and snow.
Freshman Carter Moss of Centralia, Mo. concluded his outstanding campaign with a 10th place finish. He covered the 8K distance in a time of 27:12.2. Moss becomes the first SFCC cross country student-athlete to earn All-American honors. Freshman Hayden Krentz of Hamilton, Mo. placed 118th with a time of 29:25.6. Sophomore Adam Broekemeier of Edwardsville, Ill. contributed a 165th place finish with a time of 30:21.9. Freshman Sam Tagtmeyer of Sedalia, Mo. ran a time of 30:29.7 to finish 177th. Freshman Owen Weatherspoon of Lawson, Mo. placed 282nd with a time of 32:59.8.
"Our team fought through the entire 8 kilometers, never backing down or easing up due to the tough conditions," said co-head coach Kellin Loch. "Adam Broekemeier was our only sophomore running, he improved upon his place from last year's national meet by 69 places to get 165th out of 343 this year. Our freshmen all had respectable placings as well, but Carter Moss stood out among the rest. Carter went into the race determined to come out as an All-American, hoping to just break into the top 25. He stayed steady around the 18th place spot for the first half of the race and then kept creeping up for the final four kilometers to claim the 10th place spot when crossing the finish line."
