Roadrunners earn Region 16 honors
Sedalia, Mo. Three State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men’s basketball players have earned honors from the coaches in Region 16.
Sedalia, Mo. Three State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men's basketball players have earned honors from the coaches in Region 16. Freshman wing JP Ndong of Germany/Senegal and freshman guard/wing Andin Ashford of Wilkesboro, N.C. earned First-Team honors in Region 16. Sophomore guard Gavin Q Murphy of Calabasas, Calif. was named Second-Team All Region 16.
"I'm grateful for all the hard work that they all made for the benefit of the program," said Roadrunners head coach Jeremy Jackson. "All three of the players really grew their games from the start of the season to the end of the season. They are also great kids."
Ndong led the team in points per game with 11.2. Ndong scored in double figures 18 times during his freshman year. He pulled down six rebounds per game and 1.5 assists per contest. Ndong also registered 1.2 steals per game.
"We always knew that JP was talented and skilled," said Jackson. "When he got used the speed of the game, he really took off. He has the ability to go play just about anywhere in the country."
Ashford scored 9.1 points per game. He pulled down 2.4 rebounds per game and dished out three assists per game. Ashford scored in double figures in 14 games during his freshman campaign.
"Andin came in and worked hard every day both on the court and off the court," said Jackson. "He probably made the most strides out of anyone in our program this year."
Murphy scored 10.5 points per game. He pulled down 1.3 rebounds per contest and dished out 1.5 assists per game. Murphy registered one steal per game. Murphy shot 47% from beyond the three-point arc. He scored in double figures 15 times this season.
"Gavin Q Murphy didn't start a game for us this year," said Jackson. "He was one of our leading scorers and leaders on the court. He wanted to be great. He came in and hit shots and did his job extremely well."
The trio helped SFCC to a 16-15 record this season and a trip to the Region 16 Semifinal round.
