Roadrunners fall in battle with nationally ranked Barton
Great Bend, Kan.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men’s basketball team lost a hard-fought 85-80 decision to 17th ranked Barton Community College on Tuesday night, Nov. 11 in Great Bend, Kan.
Great Bend, Kan.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men's basketball team lost a hard-fought 85-80 decision to 17th ranked Barton Community College on Tuesday night, Nov. 11 in Great Bend, Kan.
SFCC (3-3) got out to a 12-6 lead with around 12 minutes remaining in the opening half. Barton put together a run to take an 18-15 lead with about eight minutes remaining. Barton took a 33-29 lead into halftime.
The Roadrunners started fast on the offensive end to begin the second half. SFCC took a 36-35 lead early in the second half. The game was tied at 53 with just under 12 minutes remaining. The game remained close throughout the entire second half.
Barton had a three-point advantage with less than four minutes remaining in the contest and made enough plays in the final minutes to turn back the SFCC upset bid.
Sophomore forward Ibraheem Sylla registered a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead SFCC in both categories. Freshman guard/wing Andin Ashford contributed 13 points and a team-high five assists. Sophomore guard Gavin Q Murphy added 11 points. Freshman guard Nate Wilder led the team in steals with three. Sophomore wing Jai'Kori Phillps led the team in blocked shots with two.
SFCC will return to action on Friday, Nov.14 with a game against Western Iowa Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be the first of six home games in a row for the Roadrunners.
