Roadrunners earn weekend split
West Burlington, Iowa- The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men’s basketball team bounced back to defeat Southeastern Community College 82-62 to close out the Culver's Midwest Classic on Saturday, Nov. 8 in West Burlington, Iowa.
West Burlington, Iowa- The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men's basketball team bounced back to defeat Southeastern Community College 82-62 to close out the Culver's Midwest Classic on Saturday, Nov. 8 in West Burlington, Iowa.
SFCC (3-2) trailed 36-35 going into the locker room at halftime. The Roadrunners grabbed a 52-45 lead with about 12 remaining in the second half. SFCC pushed the advantage to 70-51 with less than four minutes to go in the game. The Roadrunners made the plays down the stretch to secure the road victory and earn the split for the weekend.
SFCC had five players who scored in double figures in the game. Freshman guard Nate Wilder and sophomore Jai'Kori Phillps tied for the team lead in scoring with 15 points each. Phillps also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds. Phillps tied for the team lead in steals with five, and blocked shots with two. Wilder also dished out a team-high seven assists and tied for the team lead in steals with five. Sophomore guard Gavin Q Murphy pitched in with 13 points. Sophomore forward Malick Ndiaye scored 11 points along with sophomore forward Daniel Garza. Sophomore forward Ibraheem Sylla also tied for the team lead in blocked shots with two.
SFCC will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov.11 with a game at Barton Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
