Roadrunners earn first victory of the season
Sedalia, Mo.-The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners men’s basketball team defeated the Central Methodist University Junior Varsity 124-63 to close out the McDonald’s Classic on Saturday, Nov. 1 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

SFCC (1-1) jumped out to an early 18-4 advantage with less than 17 minutes to go in the first half. The Roadrunners led 60-32 at halftime and never looked back.
"I thought we continued to share the basketball tonight," said Roadrunners head coach Jeremy Jackson. "I thought some guys were ready to come in and make some plays that they might not have made last night. It shows the depth of our team. We have a lot of guys who can put the ball in the basket. We just want to get the importance of defense instilled in these guys' minds. Defense is nonnegotiable, when we get out there, we defend. We got 32 deflections tonight which leads to steals and transition. I thought we also rebounded the ball pretty well tonight."
SFCC used a balanced scoring attack with six players in double figures. Sophomore guard Gavin Q Murphy led SFCC in scoring with 19 points. Sophomore forward Daniel Garza had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Brycen Redmon also scored 18 points. Sophomore forward Ibraheem Sylla registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds which tied for the team lead in rebounds Sophomore forward Malick Ndiaye pitched in with 12 points. Freshman guard Damian Dirden contributed 10 points. Sophomore wing Jai'Kori Phillps led the team in steals with five. Freshman guard/wing Andin Ashford dished out a team-high 12 assists. Freshman wing JP Ndong tied for the team lead in rebounds with 11.
SFCC will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 4 with a game against Olney Central College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
