State Fair Community College honors Barton
Sedalia, Mo.-State Fair Community College (SFCC) honored legendary Roadrunners basketball head coach Bill Barton in recognition of his recent induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame during a presentation at halftime of the Roadrunners Homecoming game against Three Rivers College on Feb. 14.
Sedalia, Mo.-State Fair Community College (SFCC) honored legendary Roadrunners basketball head coach Bill Barton in recognition of his recent induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame during a presentation at halftime of the Roadrunners Homecoming game against Three Rivers College on Feb. 14.
Barton led the Roadrunners from 1970 to 2005. He had a career record of 625-497 during his time at SFCC. He guided the Roadrunners to NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Tournament appearances in 1972 and 1976. Barton was also named Region 16 Coach of the Year for those seasons.
Barton helped SFCC to multiple Region 16 Championships. He coached 35 All -Region 16 players, two Region 16 Players of the Year and five NJCAA All-Americans during his distinguished career. He helped more than 40 players to continue their academic and athletic career at four-year colleges and universities.
Barton is also enshrined in the NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He began his coaching career as a successful high school coach at Crane High School and Skyline High School.
Barton is also a member of the State Fair Community College Athletic Hall of Fame inducted in 2010.
